Book Discussion: Cold Days

Hello one and all!

Hope everyone is having a great International Workers' Day. The book that I'm currently devouring is Cold Days by Jim Butcher. It is the fourteenth book in The Dresden Files series, so yeah, I'm a big fan of it.

If you don't know, The Dresden Files series is about a wizard investigator, the eponymous Harry Dresden. He goes on crazy and interesting adventures, usually action packed which culminates in massive set pieces. I think the books would be really well suited for a big screen adaptation or high budget television one. There was a Dresden Files tv series that aired back in 2007 on the Sci Fi Channel but it only ran for 12 episodes. That project was apparently first going to be a film but then it went the television series route. I found out Nicholas Cage was an executive producer on this project. The show didn't follow the story of the books, which may have disappointed some.

Cold Days continues the tradition of action and hijinks. In my opinion it even escalates and successfully builds on the groundwork that was laid by other installments. Ghost Story, the previous book, was a bit of a disappointment to me because it was such a massive departure. Cold Days hits the sweet spot of being innovative without losing what makes the series so compelling.

There is a lot of material to work with if it was ever adapted. There are 15 main books in the series and a number of side stories as well. It also has a very passionate and loyal fan base, and it's easy to see why. The characters are engaging, it has great humour, the action is riveting and the fantasy world is well fleshed out. I've really enjoyed following Harry Dresden along his journey and if you are looking for a fantasy series, then I'd recommend giving it a try.

Any people that are also into The Dresden Files. Would love to hear from you!
