Productive Writing Habits

Hello one and all!

I know we all struggle with trying to be productive. This is especially true for creative ventures, like writing, where you feel like you have to be inspired 24/7. There are a couple of habits that can help a writer stay moving forward, though.

Create a work space

You need an area that you feel safe in and where you can set your mind free. A place which your brain will associate with writing. This would ideally be a quiet little corner where you wouldn't be interrupted or bothered. It doesn't matter what place it is, if you feel comfortable there and able to write then it is a good start.

Inform beforehand that you are writing

It is important to set boundaries with those you love. They have to understand that the time you set apart for writing is exactly that-meant for your creative pursuits and nothing else. You are allowed to refuse requests in this special time.

Set realistic goals

Look at your schedule and see what is a realistic amount that you can write per day. Maybe that is a page a day, so stick to that goal and gradually your story will begin to form. You don't need to write a whole book in one sitting, it's all about attaining those small objectives.

Read a lot

If you aren't a voracious reader then become one! Just through taking in the works you'll learn so much. Analyse and ask questions about the certain book you are reading at the moment. Why did the author write it that way? What are some of the things that really draw you in? Critical reading will help you a lot.
