Freedom Day

Hello one and all!

Today is a public holiday in South Africa. It's Freedom Day on the 27th of April, and if you don't know a lot about it, then fear not, because I'll be discussing it in this post.

Freedom Day celebrates the first post-apartheid elections held in South Africa.  The elections held on this day in 1994, was the first where anyone over the age of 18 from any race could vote in an election, which is an important milestone in the history of the country.

This day celebrates the liberation of the country and the freedom and rights that many people received. People celebrate the holiday in various different ways. Some choose to braai (a South African barbecue), others go to the beach and many people also go visit historic sites to be reminded of the country's heritage. There are also usually a couple of events organised across South Africa on this day.

Hope you enjoy the day, no matter where you are!
